Diver of the Year
Diver of the Year, 2008: Anna Boch
Every year, at the AGM, the Mark Cregg Memorial Cup is awarded to the Diver of the Year, a member of UCDSAC that shows particular dedication and commitment to the club.
The cup is dedicated to Mark Cregg, who joined the club in 1993 and showed just such an enthusiasm for the club, which was still in it's infancy at the time. Undoubtedly his dedication and commitment contributed in no small measure to its' ongoing development and indeed existence.
Having joined as a trainee diver, Mark quickly progressed to 1* and started diving, but it wasn't just learning to dive that Mark took part in. Thanks to his boundless enthusiasm for the new club he became PRO and got involved in it's running, from fundraising activities to social events.
Due to his genial nature and outgoing disposition Mark became a keystone of the club, and it was a natural progression that he would become relied upon by the committee and members in general. So, at the AGM in 1994 it was unsurprising that he was unanimously elected Captain.
Tragically Mark died in a road traffic accident the next day. It was a great loss for his family, his friends, and his club.
In order to keep alive his memory and the ideals of club involvement that he thoroughly espoused, the Memorial Cup was created.
