The (nearly) annual excursion to DNS (De Nor Side) away from our comfort zone of Dun Laoghaire, with it's Cappuccinos, BMWs and copies of The Irish Times, will take place on the 5th & 6th of September.
Heading for a weekend of diving on the North Side where you will have to resort to reading The Star, drinking tea and avoid been run over by the locals (probably called Nudger) in their tricked up Puntos. To minimize the culture shock the plan is to operate out of Howth, Co. Dublin. This is a well known southsider’s enclave on the north side, where between the fish and chips shops you may find someone to sell you a very small and expensive coffee.
Current plan is two dives a day for both days. At some stage before the weekend I’ll put up a doodle poll for people to sign up. I am hoping that barramundi will be back from the west and we will have both boats and so places for 14-16 divers per dive. Probably bring a compressor over to operate between dives and hope to get some tanks filled in PSAC so we don’t have to fill all night.
Possible Dive sites are:
Ireland’s Eye (loads of lobsters here)
Balscadden Bay (saw an octopus here recently)
Lambay (Rose Mystique, Tayleur or Shamrock)
Marlay (27m wreck)
Rockabill (if the weather is good)
If the weather breaks with tradition and is nice and warm and sunny I may even host a BBQ (but no promises until I see what you all do to Eoin’s house after the club BBQ). My house is in Swords which isn’t as south side as Howth but the locals probably won’t burn out your cars.
More details to follow so watch this space :-)
